Sunkesula is one of the largest barrages across the Tungabhadra River in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was built in 1861, during the British raj, for transporting goods on the K. C. Canal.It was constructed by Madurai Irrigation company in 1866.Later this canal was sold out to government of Andhra Pradesh in 1872.This canal provides water to almost 1.2 lakh hectares.
