Battery Jasper is a military extension of Fort Moultrie. Built in 1897, it housed multiple weapons due to its proximity to Charleston Harbor. It has a powerhouse that was built in 1910 to power the fort. Only a quarter of the structure is open to the public because the rest was deemed unstable. It was named after William Jasper who was best known for rescuing a shot down South Carolina flag at the same location. It is of the same style as Battery Thomson and was built close to the same time as Battery Gadsden. Read more on Wikipedia
